Frackfree National Coalition, Youngstown, will hold a prayer service commemorating the sixth anniversary of the Youngstown 4.0-magnitude earthquake linked to an injection well at 1 p.m. Thursday on the green in Brookfield Center.

Frackfree America is working with local residents to oppose the applications for three injection wells proposed for property on Route 7 north of Wyngate Manor Mobile Home Park, and the construction of two others already approved for the same site. The wells would be used to dispose of salt water waste generated by oil and gas drilling operations.

The Rev. Monica Beasley-Martin of Defenders of the Earth Outreach Mission will provide the prayer.

Frackfree America said the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, which has the authority to approve injection wells “needs to face the reality that our region is now earthquake-prone. Permitting injection wells in this area is essentially gambling with the public health, safety and welfare.”

The Youngstown earthquake occurred Dec. 31, 2011, and was one of several that occurred around the same time.
