A Youngstown man who police said was at fault for a Sept. 20 crash involving a garbage truck and a minivan in Masury has entered pleas of no contest to charges of vehicular manslaughter and failing to yield.
Stephen W. Styranec, 48, will be sentenced July 25. He faces no more than 180 days in jail and a fine, said Trumbull County Eastern District Court Judge Marty D. Nosich.
Styranec “caused the death of another by failing to yield the right-of-way,” said Eastern District Court Prosecutor Deena Devico.
Styranec was driving the garbage truck northbound on Bedford Road when he pulled out from the stop sign on Route 62 into the path of the minivan driven by Linda A. Tinelli, 75, of Hubbard Township, which was eastbound on Route 62, Ohio Highway Patrol said.
A passenger in the minivan, Blaine N. Tinelli, 80, was pronounced dead at Sharon Regional Medical Center, police said.
Styranec and Linda Tinelli also were taken to the hospital, police said.
Members of the Tinelli family attended the plea hearing May 30 and Nosich told them, “We’re gonna set it (sentencing) up for later in the day so there will be ample opportunity to be heard.”
