Christmas in the Country, the Brookfield Drama Club’s annual arts and craft show, still exists, but is now part of Warrior WinterFest instead of being a stand-alone event.
“We decided to rebrand the whole day as Warrior WinterFest so it would be more inclusive of everything that’s going on that day and to include more of our community,” said drama club adviser Megan Rodgers. “We are more than just a craft show.”
WinterFest will be held 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 14 at the school at 614 Bedford Road. Events include:
A play, “How Santa Got His Christmas Tree,” by Tim Kelly and put on by Brookfield Little Warrior Theatre, the club’s fourth through sixth graders, 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $2 at brookfielddrama.com or $3 at the door.
Sip N Paint, a painting class with a cocoa and dessert bar, 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Tickets are $15 and are available at brookfielddrama.com. Brookfield Art Club is helping out.
promoReindeer Games, family activities put on by the club’s older members.
Breakfast with Santa, sponsored by the Class of 2020, including photos with Santa and face painting, 9 a.m. to noon. Tickets are $6 for adults, $4 for children and free for kids under 3.
Christmas in the Country, with 100 vendors and a gift auction. Admission is free.
Brookfield Middle and Elementary schools will be holding literacy activities.
Having the Little Warriors stage “How Santa Got His Christmas Tree” frees up the older students to work other events, Rodgers said, noting WinterFest is the club’s only fundraiser.
Ava Winters, a fourth grader who plays Mrs.Claus in the play, said she appreciated having another opportunity to do a play.
“Last year, I did a play and I really enjoyed it,” she said of the inaugural Little Warrior Theater Camp held over the summer. “You get to meet lots of fun people, and you get to have a good time.”
“I think drama is an immersive experience to do, and it’s fun,” added sixth grader Michael Obermiyer, who portrays Santa.
Ava endorsed the play, which has mischievous elves and a rogue toy.
“It’s very funny, and it has some comical scenes, and it’s just really fun,” she said.
