A fire in the paint booth March 18 at Panelmatic, 6882 Parkway Drive SE, Brookfield, caused little damage, but put on a heck of a show for anyone driving past.
Such as Brookfield Fire Chief David Masirovits, who was heading home at about 4:30 p.m.
“There was heavy black and brown smoke billowing out of it,” he said of the industrial building at the corner of Routes 7 and 82.
Workers were scraping old paint, when a spark started the fire, said Masirovits. The automatic fire suppression system put out the fire, but not before it filled the building with smoke, which rolled out the overhead doors.
“It looked a lot worse than it actually was,” he said. “You couldn’t even see the ceiling inside.”
The fire department evacuated the building until the smoke cleared.
