A Masury man was arrested twice Aug. 13 for driving under the influence of drugs, the second time about an hour after being released from the first arrest.
Charles L. Evans, 55, of 8179 Ulp St., was initially spotted in Vienna driving erratically on Route 82 eastbound, and a caller followed Evans’ pickup into Brookfield, police said. The caller was joined by 15 to 20 other vehicles “following close behind with flashing lights and honking horns,” police said.
Police said they observed Evans’ pickup “go very far off of the south side of the roadway” near Route 7.
Evans pulled over at about 9 p.m. on Joy Road, police said.
Evans had “very poor balance and very slurred speech,” and admitted that he had smoked marijuana and took a muscle relaxer earlier in the day, police said.
Police booked Evans and drove him home.
At about 11 p.m., one of the arresting officers saw Evans pull into the police station parking lot and get out of a car, police said. Evans claimed no one told him he couldn’t drive, but the policeman said he told Evans that “he knew very well that he could not drive,” because of his DUI arrest and that his driver’s license had been suspended.
promoEvans said he returned to the station because he wanted to get food out of his impounded truck, police said.
After booking Evans and impounding the car, a policeman took him home, police said.
Evans was arraigned Aug. 18 and faces a pretrial hearing on Oct. 1.
