Brookfield police said they have obtained an arrest warrant for a Warren man who is believed to have been involved in at least one of a series of attempted scams.

Steven E. Kuhn Jr., 53, is charged with criminal attempt for an incident Feb. 26 at a home in the 1100 block of Hubbard Thomas Road, police said.

Police said Kuhn stopped at the home, described himself as a neighbor and told the 69-year-old resident that he needed money to help his wife, who was in trouble.

The resident refused to give Kuhn any money, but supplied police with a description of the man, his clothing, and his car.

Police said they worked with other police departments to identify Kuhn, and the resident of Hubbard Thomas Road confirmed Kuhn was the man who came to his door, police said.

Police issued a social media alert on Feb. 11 for a man matching Kuhn’s description who had approached other township residents and told a similar story in attempts to get money, police said.

Kuhn “has had dealings with Brookfield Police Department for similar scams in 1995 and 2009,” police said.
