Candace and Robert Phipps have moved their store, C and G Retail, to Hubbard, but they have not given up on Brookfield, where they operated for five years.

The couple has started a new venture, CGC Clothing and Liquidation, at the Brookfield location, 7111 Warren Sharon Road.

“It’s gonna be more clothing, curtains, and then little odds and ends-type stuff, a little different from what they’re used to there,” Candace said of CGC, which opened April 28.

Much of the clothing is new, with the tags still on items, she said.

C and G, now located at 828 N. Main St., the old Hubbard Coal and Supply building, sells “liquidated merchandise, like shelf pulls, damaged boxes, returns, stuff like that,” Candace said.

The enterprise had outgrown the Brookfield location, she said. Merchandise was stacked on top of each other, and it was hard to see what was available. Parking was limited.

“It’s a bigger location, way more space, way easier to unload truck loads,” Candace said of Hubbard.

The Hubbard location, which opened the second week of April, has 6,700 square feet, while the Brookfield building has 3,700, Robert said.

promoC and G began as a venture about seven years ago, when Robert started getting pallets of merchandise, which the Phippses sold from their home.

The majority of the time, the Phippses don’t know what merchandise is on the delivery truck until they open the doors, but they have a loyal clientele that likes to be surprised.

“We have some (customers) that come every day we are open,” Candace said. “We appreciate it immensely.”

The locations are open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Saturday.
