Brookfield firefighters were awaiting Ohio Edison to arrive to shut off the power at a home at 500 S. Stateline Road in Masury, where a fire was concentrated around the electrical panel.

“We can’t even get to the panel downstairs to secure anything,” Chief David Masirovits said at about 8:30 p.m. July 8. “We believe all the fire’s out.”

The occupant of the rental home “came home and the story that I’ve heard so far is he turned the air conditioner on, he heard a pop in the basement,” Masirovits said. “He immediately started to see and smell smoke. He exited the building and called 911.”

“We located the fire above the electrical panel in the basement,” he said. “It seems to be focused in that area.”

Smoke spread throughout the two-story structure.

Sharon firefighters assisted.

The home is owned by Mary Katherine Ferrara, according to the Trumbull County auditor’s website.
