A Sharon man was put on probation for aggravated menacing of a Masury woman and obstructing the Brookfield police investigation.

Ryan J. Martin, 41, pleaded guilty to the two misdemeanor charges March 16, and was sentenced June 29 by Trumbull County Common Pleas Court Judge W. Wyatt McKay to 2 years’ probation.

Martin argued with the woman at her home on Elm Street Oct. 29, pulled out a knife, said he would slash the woman’s tires and motioned like he was going to slash the tires, police said. Martin left when the woman said she was going to call the police, police said.

Martin was interviewed Nov. 1 and claimed that he was in Niles with his girlfriend at the time of the incident, police said. He also provided Facebook messages sent Oct. 31 in which the woman said she made a false report, had her son lie, and lied to the prosecutor, police said.

Police determined that Martin had access to the woman’s Facebook account and that he had fabricated the messages, and interviewed the girlfriend, who helped establish a timeline different from what Martin had provided.

The victim has since died.
