Pauline Walker Phillips thanks Brookfield trustees for supporting an effort to name a bridge after Vietnam vets.

Brookfield trustees have approved a resolution asking Trumbull County to name the bridge on Warren Sharon Road across from Yankee Run Golf Course as Vietnam War Veterans Memorial Bridge to honor  three men with Brookfield/Masury ties who died during the Vietnam War.

The request now goes to the Trumbull County Engineer and commissioners for action. Warren Sharon Road is a county road.

Joe Mariano initiated the effort to honor Marine Lance Cpl. Mcarthur Coleman; Army Staff Sgt. Martin Walker Jr.; and Army Pfc. Paul E. Good.

“We’re gonna get this done,” Trustee Dan Suttles said Dec. 5. “Hopefully, we can get this dedicated, a sign in place, by Memorial Day.”

“I just want to thank the township, and I want to thank his classmates,” said Pauline Walker Phillips, the sister of Martin Walker. “Not a year goes by that someone does not contact me and let me know that this is still in their prayers and their thoughts. People thinking about my brother consistently, year after year – it’s almost been 52 years. That is an honor to who he was, who he still is in heaven, and I just want to say thank you.”
