The driver of a truck tractor that wiped out a fire hydrant Feb. 23 in Masury, sending a gusher of water into Sharon, has been charged with two offenses.
John R. Swab III, 38, of 662 Bedford Road, Brookfield, turned right from Alfred Street to South Stateline Road, hitting the hydrant and wrenching it from the ground, police said.
The impact damaged the Freightliner’s fuel tank, spilling a large amount of diesel, police said.
Swab drove away, but Sharon police found him at Budd Street and Irvine Avenue, police said.
Police charged Swab with improper turn and leaving the scene of an accident.
Swab has been fired from CHP Trans Inc. of Stroudsburg, Pa., police said.
Brookfield Road and Fire departments assisted.
