Brookfield Middle School students fared well in the 2018 Penn State Shenango Upcycled Art Contest. Eleven students won either for individual or group efforts. Their artworks were made from discarded household materials and typical art supplies. Individual project winners were Katie Guy, fourth-grade; William Guy and Genevieve Henkel, fifth-grade; and Tyler Thompson and Lillie Toth, sixth-grade. In the group categories, fifth-graders Kamryn Kurpe, Jordan Hammond, Giovanna Franz, Olivia McElarath and Ivy Foust, and sixth-graders Hayden Hoskins and Uriah Pinchot took home awards. Hayden and Uriah’s piece also was named overall group winner for grades four through six. All are students of Brookfield art teacher, Linda Bain. The awards were issued April 7 at Penn State’s Earth Fest in Sharon. There were 84 pieces submitted from 107 artists in a dozen schools, said art committee member Jennifer Jewell.
