Stacy Adkins had never been to Brookfield before she looked at the building that she eventually rented and opened as Stacy’s Glam Hair Studio in Brookfield Center.
“I didn’t even know where it was,” she said of Brookfield.
But the Warren woman hopes to become a fixture in town.
Adkins had a salon in Warren for two years and then Niles for another two before she lost her lease.
“I found this building on Craigslist,” she said of 311 Route 7. “I came out here and signed the papers the same day.”
She said she likes being in an historic building surrounded by other historic buildings, and the park-like setting with the green across the street. There is plenty of traffic on Route 7 but, at night, when she has to work late, she can sit outside and enjoy the quiet.
“It’s really not that far for my clients who came from Boardman and Warren,” she said.
Adkins opened the salon in mid-July, offering haircuts for women and men, waxing, nail work, eyelash extensions, spray tans, eyebrows and other services.
While her clients have followed her to the new location, fliers she dropped at Brookfield Diner and Mr. D’s Food Fair have brought in new ones.
Licensed for 11 years and trained at Raphael’s School of Beauty Culture, Adkins said she loves her job.
“This was always something I wanted to do,” she said. “It makes people feel better, boosts their confidence.”
She tries to give her clients a good experience.
“It’s all about how it makes people feel,” she said, “If they leave here with a good feeling, they’re going to come back.”
Adkins has four others working for her, including Marian Baun of Out of Eden Hair Design. Baun rented this same space for 10 years before relocating to Warren Sharon Road for another 10 years. However, when she found she needed a change, and learned Adkins was opening a salon, she asked to join her.
Baun shares Adkins’ love of the location, and the camaraderie between herself, Adkins and other stylists and specialists.
“This is where I want to close out my career,” she said.
