A Poland man died in a two-vehicle crash at about 3:15 p.m. Tuesday in the 1300 block of Route 7 in Brookfield, Ohio Highway Patrol said.
It is not known if Thomas Stefek Jr., 48, died of injuries suffered in the crash or if he suffered a medical issue prior to impact, said Lt. Brian Vail.
“There was no impairment,” Vail said of whether alcohol might have been a factor.
The Trumbull County Coroner’s Office took possession of the body.
Stefek was in a southbound utility truck, which went left of center, clipping a northbound pickup, then smashed into a utility pole, cutting the pole in half, Vail said.
A witness described the utility truck as moving gradually across the road, Vail said.
The driver of the pickup, Lawrence Gerdy, 79, of Hermitage, was not injured and damage to the truck was minimal, Vail said.
However, the utility truck was entangled in fallen power lines, said Brookfield Fire Lt. Nick Cresanto.
“We had to wait for OE (Ohio Edison) to get here and turn the power off before we could do anything,” Cresanto said.
Route 7 was closed between routes 62 and 82.
Officials did not know when power might be restored.
