Residents of Brookfield and Hubbard townships reported hearing loud booms at about 4 p.m. on New Year’s Eve.

Residents of Wyngate Manor Mobile Home Park in Brookfield said the booms were loud enough to shake their homes.

Brookfield firefighters and police said they received no reports, although a firefighter said he heard what he thought sounded like thunder. Hubbard city and township police listed no reports on their call logs.

Some people wondered whether the booms came from the injection well on Route 7, north of Wyngate. Ohio Department of Natural Resources spokesman Steven Irwin said ODNR had received no complaints, and Highland Field Services, which operates the injection well, was unaware of any reports.

“Our inspector completed an inspection this morning, no issues at the injection well,” Irwin said. “The noise was attributed to firearms south of the property.”
