Twenty-six people have applied to be Brookfield Local School District’s next superintendent, said school board President Ronda Bonekovic.
Bonekovic said she did not have a list of the applicants, who had until midnight April 10 to tender their interest.
Superintendent Velina Jo Taylor has resigned to take the same position at Lakeview schools. She will leave when her contract expires July 31.
Bonekovic said she was pleased to have so many candidates, but also said the prospect of considering such a large number was daunting and she was thankful to have Michael Hanshaw from the Trumbull County Educational Services Center and Cheryl McArthur from the Mahoning County Educational Services Center advising the board.
The board has announced it will hold private meetings April 30 and May 1 to conduct interviews.
The board is accepting comments from the public about what people would like in the next superintendent – the survey is available at the district’s web site and on its Facebook page – and students are being asked to share their thoughts.
The board has said it would like to hire Taylor’s replacement on May 22.
