A Sharon man faces a plea hearing Sept. 26 on a charge of aggravated vehicular assault for the Sept. 22, 2018, near-fatal crash between a motorcycle and an all-terrain vehicle in Masury.
Charles Costea, now 64, of Masury, was northbound on the ramp connecting Route 82 to Route 62 at about 10:15 p.m. when an ATV that was southbound on the ramp in the wrong direction hit Costea’s motorcycle head on, Ohio Highway Patrol said.
Costea suffered life-threatening injuries, police said.
The driver of the ATV fled the scene, but was later identified as Nathan H. Delgros, 43, of 514 B. St., Sharon, police said. Alcohol use by Delgros was suspected, and he received medical treatment following the crash, police said.
Trumbull County prosecutors on Aug. 28 filed a bill of information charging Delgros with aggravated vehicular assault, and the court on Sept. 9 set a plea hearing for Sept. 26, apparently indicating Delgros’ willingness to enter a plea without being indicted.
The charge of aggravated vehicular assault is a fourth-degree felony, typically punishable by 6 to 18 months in prison and a fine of up to $5,000.
