William Slanina

A man who allegedly made threats to three people and police was found guilty recently of two counts of menacing.
William R. Slanina, 39, of Youngstown, was living in Brookfield Acres on Jan. 3 when he was scheduled to attend a meeting with park management concerning unauthorized tenants in his trailer, police said.
Slanina became upset and yelled profanities and threats, police said. He claimed he had an AR-15 rifle with a 30-round magazine and an M1 carbine rifle in his trailer and “has no problem shooting” a park employee or two men who were present, police said. He also said that no one with a badge will make it through the door, police said.
Police said they approached Slanina’s trailer, and he could be seen standing at the front sliding glass door holding a rifle. Slanina put the gun down and came outside, police said.
Slanina gave police consent to search the trailer and they found two, 12-gauge shotguns; .22- and .30-caliber rifles; an M1 rifle; and a .22-caliber pistol, which were seized, police said.
promoSlanina was found guilty of the two counts May 28, and a third count was dismissed upon him agreeing that police had probable cause to arrest him.
Trumbull County Eastern District Court Judge Marty Nosich sentenced Slanina to 5 days in jail with credit for the 5 days he had already served, a $100 fine and 1 year of probation.
