Brookfield trustees, Brookfield Township Historic Commission and Brookfield Township Historical
Society have written letters to the Trumbull County commissioners on behalf of the Trumbull County
Historical Society’s effort to secure federal American Rescue Plan funds for history-related projects.
The letters ask for some of that money to come to Brookfield for a renovation of the gazebo on the green
in Brookfield Center, and for appropriate storage containers for the historical society’s archives room in
the township administration building.
The wooden posts and railings in the gazebo are rotting and the concrete floor is peeling, officials said.
The trustees in March 2020 had received a quote of $7,500 to put PebbleStone on the floor, but did not
undertake a project.
Representatives of the county historical society visited the archive room of Brookfield’s historical society, and showed officials that the historic documents and artifacts are not stored in containers that will help
preserve them for future generations, officials said.
“Part of that money is to be able to buy some appropriate storage containers for those things in there,”
said historic commission member Valerie Kokor, who has led the charge to look for grant funding for
history-related projects.
