A Brookfield man faces what could be a life prison sentence following his guilty plea to 14 sex charges.
Robert Richards, 53, of 7440 Stewart Sharon Road, pleaded guilty Aug. 5 to six counts of rape and eight counts of gross sexual imposition. Trumbull County Common Pleas Court Judge W. Wyatt McKay sentenced Richards to 10 years to life in prison.
As part of the plea, prosecutors agreed not to pursue a charge of disseminating matter harmful to juveniles.
Brookfield police said they received a report Oct. 11 that Richards had sexually assaulted an 8-year-old girl that day. Through the course of the investigation, police determined Richards had used force or the threat of force to compel the girl to submit to him over a period that went back to Dec. 2019.
