Haley Dunn applies eyelash extension on Floria Gerardino at Dunn’s salon, Alchemy Beauty Bar in Brookfield. Dunn opened the salon in Brookfield Center in May.

After a couple of years renting space at other salons, eyelash and makeup specialist Haley Dunn needed a change.

“I decided that I would prefer to open up my own, so that I can control the environment a little more, and the type of people who work in it,” Dunn said. “That’s when we started looking around for buildings. We found this place here.”

“Here” is 411 Route 7 in Brookfield, across the street from the green in Brookfield Center and Brookfield United Methodist Church, where she has opened Alchemy Beauty Bar.

Dunn liked the location on a main road, but also the “homey” feel of the area, she said.

“It’s nice being in a smaller city,” she said. “Even if you don’t have as many walk-ins, you have people who I think are more dedicated to their town and who are willing to shop amongst their own community. We decided it was going to be a good location for that.”

Dunn offers eyelash extensions, waxing, makeup and lash lifts and tints. Hair stylist Emmy Farkas does cuts, colors and extensions.

“It’s just the two of us, right now, so we are currently seeking more booth renters for hair stylists and nail artists,” said Dunn, who opened the salon in May.

A 2019 graduate of LaBrae High School and Trumbull Career and Technical Center, Dunn said she and Farkas have customers who have followed them to Brookfield, such as Floria Gerardino of Newton Falls, who came in recently for eyelash extensions.

“She’s just so amazing with lashes,” said Gerardino, a customer for about three years, since she was in high school.

promoDunn has been attending community events to promote the business.

“We’re still trying to get our name out there,” she said. “It takes a little bit, especially in a smaller, tight-knit community. We both have books (appointments) that followed us here. We have had a few people stop in and schedule appointments. We’re also trying to get very involved in social media.”
