Brookfield police department has been awarded a federal grant to buy new portable radios, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine has announced.

Brookfield is getting $30,791 in an Edward J. Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant, the governor’s office said. The Ohio Department of Public Safety administers the grants.

The award is half of what Brookfield had asked for, and will cover the cost of 7½ radios, said Brookfield Police Chief Dan Faustino.

Faustino said Dec. 27 he had not received confirmation of the grant other than what was in a press release.

Other Trumbull County departments receiving JAG grants are the TAG Drug Task Force, Fowler, Niles and Cortland.
