A Streetsboro man has been sentenced to probation for beating a man who told him that he had been fired.

Archie R. James, 34, formerly of Masury, pleaded guilty Sept. 20 to a charge of attempted felonious assault. Trumbull County Judge Andrew Logan sentenced James Nov. 22  to 5 years’ probation.

James was a driver for Melton Trucking and was at Melton’s Masury terminal on June 4, 2021, when the company safety officer confronted James about improperly securing loads on his truck, Brookfield police said.

The officer said he discussed the matter with the corporate office after talking to James, and it was decided that James should be fired, police said. When the safety officer told James, James flipped the officer’s desk and punched the officer in the face four or five times, police said. Another employee got James off the officer, and James left the scene before police arrived.

The safety officer was taken to a hospital for facial injuries, police said.

James was not arrested on the Brookfield warrant until March, and spent 6 days in Trumbull County Jail.
