84 Lumber Co. has presented preliminary plans to expand its building materials store in Brookfield.

“They’re gonna put three new buildings out to the north and a detention pond,” township Code Enforcement Officer Pete Ross told the trustees on Feb. 21.

The company currently has an office and retail building on the site at 5843 Warren Sharon Road, and six material storage sheds of various sizes. It proposes to build a 30,000-square-foot building with office space, which is larger than any of the existing buildings, and two storage sheds, one of 7,000 square feet and the other of 8,000 square feet.

The company also wants to add 90 feet to its railroad spur.

An email sent to a company spokesperson was not returned.

In a press release posted on its website in January, the company said it was planning to make improvements to 54 existing locations in 2023.

It also plans to open new stores in California and Colorado, relocate stores in West Virginia and Florida, open new component parts plants in Florida, South Carolina, Georgia and Idaho and a new door plant in Colorado, and build centers in New Jersey and Massachusetts.

The company, which is based in Eighty-Four, Pa.,bills itself as the largest privately owned building materials supplier in the United States, with 234 stores, 14 component manufacturing plants, 28 engineered wood product centers and 34 door shops.
