Contingent upon the weather and the Ohio Public Works Commission releasing money, Kirila Contractors Inc. will start paving more than two dozen Brookfield streets on July 17, said township Road Superintendent Jaime Fredenburg.
Kirila, of Brookfield, plans to start on the streets in Yankee Hills, west of Yankee Run Golf Course, and then move to Valley View Drive, Lynita Drive and part of Crestwood Drive, he said. Wildwood Drive and part of Crestwood will not be done until after an impending storm water drainage improvement project, which Fredenburg said he hopes can be completed later this year.
Dirt roads Bedoo Road and Iron Street will be moved to the end of the paving because the township road department has to perform preparatory work such as widening and installing drainage pipe, Fredenburg said.
Albright McKay Road between King Graves Road and just south of Amy Boyle Road has been subcontracted to Martuccio Paving and Asphalt, Hermitage, because it will be paved with a cold mix asphalt process instead of hot mix asphalt. That work is likely to be done in August, Fredenburg said.
Cold mix asphalt is better for “long, country roads” because it is more flexible and gets a chip seal surface of small rocks, Fredenburg said.
Other streets to be paved are Hubbard Thomas Road; Grove Street west of Route 7; Seaborn/Seaburn Street; Wood Street; Lincoln Street; Baxter Street; Stevenson Road; Francis Street; Margaret Avenue; Meek Street; Atlantic Street; Diamond Street; Linden Avenue; Owsley Avenue between Lincoln and the dead end; Balint Avenue; Thomas Road; Richard Drive; David Lane; Strimbu Drive; and Taylor Street.
Meek Street will be paved after Aqua Ohio replaces a water line.
The project was awarded in two contracts of $697,077 and $1,627,500. The smaller contract is funded by a $150,000 OPWC grant with the rest coming from the township’s road levy. The larger contract is funded by a loan from OPWC that will be paid back in installments from the road levy.
