Cars, Chris Higbee, crafts and kids activities will highlight the first Warrior Nation Community Summerfest and Car Show, which will be held Aug. 11 at Brookfield schools, 614 Bedford Road SE, Brookfield.

The idea for the show originated in 2019, but the COVD-19 pandemic halted plans. About a year ago, the idea resurfaced thanks to school Supt. Toby Gibson, said committee member Chris Bray.

“We hope that this is something we can do annually, like Heritage Days used to be, and then the Summerfest was there for a few years that the church did,” Bray said. “We want it to be for the whole community to enjoy.”

School groups will hold fundraisers; food vendors will satisfy appetites; and local businesses are invited to sell their wares.

“It’s for everybody,” Bray said. “We’re not trying to leave anybody out. We want anybody to be included that wants to be.”

The official times for the event are noon to 5 p.m., but cars will start registering earlier.

“It’s open to anything,” Bray said of the types of vehicles that will be displayed. “I had a guy call me and see if he could bring, he had some garden tractors he was proud of and wanted to display. Bring ’em.”

There will be no classes, although the vehicles will be judged. “That gives anybody the opportunity to get a prize,” Bray said.

Students made dash plaques and trophies. Car registration costs $10 in advance and $20 on the day of the show.

Church Boys Racing of Bristolville, which sells parts for Chevy Novas, Camaros, C-10 pickups and Chevelles, will have cars on display.

Chris Higbee, the Brookfield country-rock performer with a large regional following, will play from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Lawn chairs are welcome for the concert.

All money raised from the car show, food and craft vendor fees and the sale of T-shirts and koozies will go to the school toward the purchase of a solar-powdered, lighted sign that alerts motorists of their speed in the school zone on Bedford Road.

“I’m excited for the community. I’m excited for Brookfield,” Bray said. “The Heritage Days was fun away back when. Hopefully, we can get back to something like that.”
