A Masury man has been charged with falsification for making up a story that someone pulled a gun on him, Brookfield police said.

Diamond B. Carpec, 22, of 8089 Addison Road, also has been charged with criminal trespass for entering the property of Circle K, 902 S. Irvine Ave., Masury, when he had been told he is not allowed there, police said.

Carpec pleaded not guilty at arraignment Aug. 6 and faces a pretrial hearing Aug. 29.

Carpec called police Aug. 4 to file a report and told them he had gone to the convenience store at the request of an employee, who is an ex-girlfriend, to return clothing, police said.

Carpec said a man, whom he identified, and a second man tried to pull him from his truck, then the first man pulled a handgun out of his pocket and threatened to shoot him, police said.

Carpec also reported that the first man broke a taillight on his pickup and dented the tailgate, police said.

The first sign that Carpec’s story was suspect was that the dent was obviously not new as it had rust on it, police said.

In talking to the ex-girlfriend and reviewing video footage at the store, police concluded Carpec made up the story, police said. No weapon was ever visible, no one tried to remove Carpec from his truck, and the man did not go near the area of the truck where Carpec claimed he caused damage, police said.

Carpec was arrested the next day on Roberts Street in Masury and released by police after booking, police said.

UPDATE: Carpec pleaded guilty to both charges Aug. 29 in Trumbull County Eastern District Court and was sentenced to a $100 fine, 30 hours of community service in lieu of 3 days in jail and 1 year of probation.
