Kimberly Kirila is shown at one of the two event locations she manages, @The Spot on Main in Hubbard.

Kimberly Kirila was not looking to change careers in February when she noticed that a storefront on Main Street in Hubbard was available for lease.

The Brookfield woman has had her eye on this building, the former Fat Guy’s Bakery, Theil’s Food Market and other businesses over the years, because of the big front window. She had a specific use in mind for that window but was not ready to pursue that idea. Instead, she decided to open @The Spot on Main Events LLC, a meeting room and mid-sized gathering event center.

“I really feel like it’s passion that meets opportunity,” said Kirila, who resigned as an educational aide in Brookfield schools to pursue this and other interests.

Kirila said she has a passion for planning parties, whether it be personal ones or public ones, such as Brookfield Elementary School’s “Grinchfest.”

“I want to make it as easy as possible for people to plan a party,” she said.

Clients can decorate the space, cook for themselves or bring in outside caterers, and Kirila has a basement full of event-support items for rent, such as decorations, drink dispensers and platters. She said she can consult on event planning, or renters can do it all themselves.

@The Spot on Main can handle about 70 people comfortably. Kirila has hosted 14 gatherings since she opened in May, including first communion and birthday parties, a candle-making workshop and yoga classes. She said she has bookings as far out as June 2025, and hopes to start getting wedding and baby showers and graduation parties. The room has wifi for use during business meetings.

If @The Spot on Main is too big for a client, she can refer them to the banquet room at Jimmy Neno’s Pizzeria and Taproom in Brookfield, which she also is managing. The room will be run as a separate space – @The Spot at Jimmy Neno’s – and people can bring in outside caterers or have Jimmy Neno’s supply food, she said.

“He wants the space utilized,” Kirila said of Jimmy Neno’s owner Dustin Ghizzoni. “It has been underused. I’m excited for doing some smaller events.”

It’s “crazy” to be managing two locations when she wasn’t even considering managing one back in February, she said. Kirila thanks her handyman husband, Donny, with supporting her ideas and helping with renovations, which have included painting, wallpapering, building a small kitchen and updating lighting at the Hubbard location.

She said she will hold fun events from time to time, such as at Christmas, and will rent space for the Tour Route 7 60-Mile Yard Sale Aug. 30-Sept. 1.

“Did really well so far and hope to keep going,” she said.

To book either location, call Kirila at 330-565-7921. @The Spot on Main is at 718 N. Main St., Hubbard. @The Spot at Jimmy Neno’s is at 7172 Warren Sharon Road, Brookfield.
