Brookfield Township Office Coordinator Tabatha Dickson already works a hybrid position as she performs clerical and administrative duties for the police department and the trustees. Now, she also is helping out Fiscal Officer Dena McMullen.
The trustees approved Dickson spending one day a week in service of McMullen. They agreed to up her pay from $14.50 an hour to $18.50 for that day, and for up to eight hours.
“There’s a lot that she’ll be able to help me with, but the major part is probably just filing things first off,” McMullen said.
McMullen said she inherited a “horrendous” filing system that was made worse when a couple of teen-aged summer helpers handled her filing.
Dickson also will go through McMullen’s email, prioritize things she believes McMullen needs to deal with right away, and print out invoices. Dickson’s duties may change as needed, and officials already are talking about teaching Dickson how to do payroll so she can act as a back up if McMullen is ever unavailable.
As of Aug. 20, the township administration building is essentially closed on Tuesdays, a day McMullen doesn’t come into the office, to allow Dickson to concentrate on helping McMullen. The phones are still answered and Dickson can access the front door if she needs to. Police officers will handle the release of vehicles from the impound lot, she said.
Dickson said she believes she will be able to handle her police and township duties in only four days a week; she just will restructure her week, she said.
On Aug. 26, after Dickson had spent only one day in her new role, McMullen said Dickson already had “made a huge headway.”
“It’s getting there,” McMullen said.
