Brookfield police are undertaking a small project to modify the layout of the police station. Officials hope the project will make it easier for officers to write reports – and to eat lunch.

Police Chief Aaron Kasiewicz said a room by the front office will be designated for report writing. It will have desks, body cam computers and a printer in it. “You’ll have all your papers, everything you need, in that room,” he told the trustees July 29.

A second room, which is supposed to be a break room, will actually be a break room. Desks and equipment in that room will be moved out. “The guys sit in there to eat lunch at that little table and you’re always getting bothered,” Kasiewicz said. “You can’t get 10 minutes to eat.”

The police officers plan to do the work themselves – except for any electrical work they run into – with the material cost expected to be less than $1,000.

“Talking to all of the guys, with the exception of one guy who would lose a desk, everyone else likes the opportunity,” Kasiewicz said. “I think it’s something that will spruce it up a little bit, make it more efficient.”
