Brookfield trustees on Sept. 25 approved an agreement with a third-party billing agency that should bring additional money into the Brookfield Fire Department.
The fire department gets paid by the state of Ohio for every ambulance transport of a Medicaid recipient, but there is federal money also available, said Fire Chief David Masirovits. Earlier this year, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine signed a law that makes Ohio eligible to draw down those federal funds.
Medicount, which handles billing for the fire department, already has a contract with Public Consulting Group to handle the administrative duties involved in accessing the federal funds.
Initial estimates are that the fire department could bring in an additional $50,000 to $100,000 a year, Masirovits said.
The department will pay a 10-percent administrative fee, he said.
