Brookfield Police Chief Aaron Kasiewicz said it is imperative that the 2-mill, five-year police renewal levy passes on Nov. 5.

“It’s imperative that it pass because it does account for quite a bit of the operating budget. It brings in about $250,000,” or about one-quarter of the police budget, he said.

The levy was first approved in 2004.

“We initially set it as a renewable levy because we wanted the people to decide if they were getting the services that we said we were gonna provide,” Kasiewicz said. “If it were to not pass, it would drastically cut down the department. I’m hoping that it passes this time as well.”

Kasiewicz stressed that the levy, if approved, will not raise anyone’s taxes.

“It’s terrible with taxes and everything that’s going on – everyone’s taxed,” he said. “It’s not a new tax and doesn’t change what they’re already paying.”

The levy was last approved in 2019 by a vote of 710-325.
