The Brookfield police renewal levy has passed handily.
By an unofficial tally of 2,448-1,570, the 2-mill levy will be in place for another five years.
“We’re extremely grateful for the support the community’s shown us,” said Brookfield Police Chief Aaron Kasiewicz. “With the passing of the renewal, the department’s gonna be able to continue current operations and serve the residents of Brookfield Township without a loss in the level of services that we currently provide. It means a lot to us, being able to continue doing what we’re doing without having to make any cuts.”
Sixty-one percent of voters supported the levy, which brings in about $250,000 a year and makes up about one-quarter of the department’s budget. Because the levy has to renew, residents have the option “to say we’re doing what we need to do or not doing what we’re needing to do and give them a voice,” Kasiewicz said. “It’s passed every time so it makes us feel us good to know we’re supported in what we do and trying to do it as best we can with what we have to work with.”
The levy was first approved in 2004.
