In March, Brookfield police were called to a home on Addison Road with a report that two children were home alone, and police charged the father with endangering children.

Police were back at the home at 8119 Addison on Halloween, but this time there were seven minor children present and no adult watching them. Police charged a woman, the mother of two of the kids and aunt of the other five, with endangering.

The children were removed from the home.

Brianna F. Daye, 29, of Warren, has been charged with seven misdemeanor counts of endangering children by the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Department. She appeared in Trumbull County Eastern District Court Nov. 5 and pleaded not guilty to the charges. She next appears in court Jan. 9.

Brookfield police were first on the scene and requested that Trumbull County Deputy Sheriff Jay First respond, because he is the assigned investigator for Trumbull County Children’s Services Board, said Brookfield Police Chief Aaron Kasiewicz.

“I knew they had multiple cases at this residence,” Kasiewicz said of why he asked First to respond.

Police observed spoiled food in the refrigerator and throughout the house, First said in his report. There were human feces on floors, walls and furniture, and broken glass and over-the-counter medication on the floor, he said.

“The home was in deplorable condition,” First said. “The environment was an unsafe and unsanitary condition for the children.”

The children are between the ages of 2 and 10.

Daye had gone to work “sometime in the a.m.” and police were called at 1:38 p.m., First said. She arrived at home while police were there and told police a friend was with the kids when she went to work.

“Daye refused to cooperate and gave very little info on the friend,” First said. “I was unable to confirm, that she left the kids with an adult when she left for work today.”

Daye’s five nieces and nephews had been living with Daye for three weeks, approved for placement with her by Mahoning County Children Services Board, First said.

The father of Daye’s two children, Jerami D. Wells, 33, pleaded guilty Aug. 1 to a felony count of child endangering. He was sentenced Sept. 12 to 3 years’ probation. Wells told Brookfield police in March that he had left the kids, ages 2 and 5, for five to 10 minutes so he could walk to a nearby store. The 5-year-old was seen running through the parking lot of the apartment complex in 35-degree weather but was not wearing shoes, socks or a coat, police said.
