The home of Jane Payton was burglarized on Christmas day or the day after, five or six days after Payton was slain in the home, Brookfield police said.

A family member called police after discovering the break-in at 8:30 a.m. Dec. 26. A back door to 545 Lucy St., Masury, was kicked in or pried open, police said. A washing machine and three TVs were stolen, and drawers had been gone through, police said.

The door to a garage was kicked in and power tools and hand tools were stolen, police said.

Family members had last been at the house at 2:45 p.m. Christmas Day, police said. The burglar left the water running after cutting the line to the washing machine, police said.

Payton, 57, was found dead in the home Dec. 20. Her ex-boyfriend, Andrew Reedy, 57, who was taken into custody Dec. 21, has been charged in her death.
