Brookfield voters joined their Trumbull County brothers and sisters in supporting a replacement levy for senior services.

The 0.75 mill levy, which will bring a current 0.75-mill levy up to today’s property values, passed with a 68-percent approval rating, 63,090 to 29,669.

“I’m real pleased with the confidence the voters have in how we’re using their money,” said Diane Siskowic-Jurkovic, senior service administrator.

The levy has been bringing in $2.4 million and is estimated to kick that number up to $3.6 million when the proceeds start coming in in 2026.

“That gives us a year to start planning,” Siskowic-Jurkovic said. “Although, we’ve already released additional funds in our areas where we had waiting lists, with the hopes that this would pass.”

Officials used money left over from the COVID-19 pandemic to provide services to more people signed up for the homemaker program, which helps individuals with household tasks and personal hygiene.

The levy also funds senior centers around the county and pays for exterior home chores, home-delivered meals, transportation and other activities. Siskowic-Jurkovic said officials will have a year to decide whether and how to expand services and start new programs. She noted that if anyone was interested in money to help organize a senior center in Brookfield, now is the time to come up with a plan.

“Push that idea, now that there’s extra money,” she said of a senior center. “Everybody’s gonna have their hands out.”
