The substantial completion date for the Yankee Lake sanitary sewer project has been extended a second time from Dec. 31 to Feb. 15.

The original date in the contract with Kirila Contractors Inc. of Brookfield was Oct. 11.

Kirila continues to have problems getting parts for the pump station being built at the end of Brockway Avenue, officials said.

The project will provide sanitary sewer service to most of Yankee Lake and pick up additional customers on Yankee Run Road in Masury.

Trumbull County commissioners, who approved the new completion date in a change order on Dec. 4, also approved adjustments to material quantities to reflect the actual amounts used during construction, which reduced the total construction cost by $2,652 to $2,677,624.

Commissioners also approved a plan to send letters to Trumbull County contractors who might be interested in constructing the sewer laterals that will connect homes to the sanitary sewer line. Twelve households on Yankee Run Road are eligible because of income for the county to use American Rescue Plan Act funds for the work. County officials are accepting bids for each home individually until Jan. 10. Commissioner Niki Frenchko abstained from the vote. She said she does not have an opinion from the Trumbull County prosecutor that it is legal to limit the acceptance of bids only to Trumbull County companies.
