Aqua Ohio Inc., which provides water service to parts of Masury and Hubbard Township, has filed a request with the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio to levy a system improvement charge on customers in many of its water districts, including Masury Water.
The money would be used to replace and/or rehabilitate water lines, valves and water treatment plants, the company said.
For an average residential customer, who uses 4,000 gallons of water a month, the hike would add $2.30 onto the water bill a month.
The Ohio Consumers Counsel, which has been granted permission to intervene, said 85 percent of the request would cover work already done.
