A man has been sentenced to prison in three felony cases, including a Dec. 23, 2023, chase that originated in Brookfield and ended in Youngstown.

Vaughan M. “Reese” Small, 35, was sentenced by two common pleas court judges in December to a total of 2 years in prison on drug charges filed by Girard police and the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office in unrelated cases, and the Brookfield case, also unrelated.

In the Brookfield case, a policeman tried to pull over Small because Small did not have a license, police said. Instead of pulling over, Small drove off, leading police on a chase through several communities and involving numerous police departments before he crashed the car in Youngstown and ran from it, police said.

Brookfield police charged Small with having a weapon under disability for throwing a loaded handgun from the car on Route 711. Small was not allowed to possess a firearm because of previous convictions and the then-outstanding warrant from Girard police, police said

The handgun, which had been reported stolen from Youngstown, was recovered by a state trooper assisting Brookfield police in the search.
