A Brookfield company has been hired to replace the Trumbull County 4-H building at the Trumbull County Fairgrounds.

Trumbull County commissioners on Dec. 18 hired Vendrick Construction Inc. based on a bid of $597,800, the lowest of three. Commissioner Denny Malloy said Vendrick’s bid was well below the pre-bid estimate of $749,000. The commissioners have allocated American Rescue Plan Act funds for the work.

Fair board Director and Secretary Kiersten Holmes said the building, which will be in the horse area, will replace one that was demolished in 2022. Construction is expected to start as soon as the weather breaks and be completed by the 2025 fair, which will be held July 8-13

The building will measure 28 feet by 76 feet and have an attached pavilion of 32 feet by 40 feet. It will have a meeting room, bathrooms with showers, a registration office for events and a second-story observation and announcer room. The meeting room and pavilion will be used all year round by 4-H groups, and horse shows will be held each month starting in April.

“We’ve been looking forward to this,” Holmes said. “It was definitely something that was needed so that the kids have bathrooms in the 4-H area, showers down there, so they don’t have to be out by the midway, using those bathrooms. It will definitely get a lot of use out of it.”
