Brookfield Local School District Intervention Specialist Ryan Marino was honored as a nominee for the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber’s first Mahoning Valley Educator of the Year Awards.
Marino was a student teacher at Brookfield and was hired full time in 2017. He has served in the elementary, middle and high schools. He currently is assigned to the elementary school.
“Ryan exemplifies the very best of what Brookfield Local School District stands for,” school Supt. Toby Gibson and Brookfield Federation of Teachers President Jen Jerek said in a nominating letter.
“His dedication, enthusiasm and commitment to student success has had a profound impact on our district, making him an invaluable educator and mentor,” they said, and he is “always putting the needs of students and colleagues first.”
“His classroom has always been a welcoming place where students feel safe, valued and supported. Many middle school students make special visits to see him at the elementary school, a testament to his lasting effect that he has had on their lives.”
Marino, who attended the March 18 awards dinner, said the nomination was “cool” because it “got some recognition for special ed(ucation).”
The awards program honored 33 teachers from Trumbull, Mahoning and Columbiana counties.
