Sereday’s of Masury demolishes the convenience store at Broadway Avenue and Elm Street in Masury.

Sereday’s of Masury, under contract with the Trumbull County Land Bank, is in the process of demolishing nine structures in Masury.

The buildings are homes at 8267 and 8141 Davis St.; 790 Fern St.; 8046 Ulp St.; 693 Grover St.; 7932 Rose Ave.; and 8244 Ohio St.; a mobile home at 8156 Ohio St.; and a former convenience store at 1299 Broadway Ave.

The land bank was awarded a state grant to undertake demolitions throughout the county and asked community officials to supply a list of structures. Brookfield Code Enforcement Officer Pete Ross compiled a list of abandoned homes and had them declared unfit for human habitation. He then notified or attempted to notify the property owners that their buildings could be torn down and gave them a chance to protest. No one protested, Ross said.

Trustee Dan Suttles said the owner of the Ulp Street property confronted the Sereday’s employees when they tore his house down, demanding that he be allowed to take scrap metal. Under the contract with the land bank, the metal is property of Sereday’s, Ross said.
