The Brookfield High School reunion for the classes of 1983-88 was not only a success in terms of attendance, but it raised money for a handful of school programs.
The reunion held Aug. 16 at Yankee Lake Ballroom was the “40ish” and celebrated the 60th birthdays of the Class of 1983, said Melissa Mensurati, head of the reunion committee and a member of the Class of 1985. More than 250 people attended, along with several teachers.
A basket raffle was held and some of the money was donated for school activities: $250 for the wrestling team, $250 for the girls basketball team and $300 for the eighth-grade trip to Washington, D.C. Classmates also donated food for the school pantry.
The committee called the donations “One way of thanking Brookfield for giving us the bricks with which to build our lives.”
“We would like to thank everyone who came and to those who donated their time and efforts to make this reunion such a successful event,” Mensurati said. “Many alumni and valley businesses donated raffle basket items.”
More than 50 businesses and individuals donated items for the basket raffle. The committee singled out Ink ‘N Thread Works of Masury for printing clothing for the reunion and donating items and time.
Other committee members were Amy Cole, Christine Smoot, Jason Meszaroz, Kristi Sydlowski, Jill Wilson, Lori Harkulich and Dave Chambers.
