A former Masury couple was charged with animal cruelty after Brookfield police discovered four dead cats and six malnourished cats in a home they had been evicted from in Masury.

Tiffany L. Daniels, 36, and James C. Daniels, 45, now of Hubbard, stand charged with 11 counts each.
Brookfield police said they were alerted to the situation Dec. 8 by the son of the landlord of the First Street home.

The Daniels family had been evicted two to three weeks earlier, police said.

Police said they observed four malnourished cats and one dead one in a bedroom and three dead cats and two live ones in the basement. One cat was found in a furnace identifiable by its skull and “some of the legs,” police said.

Two of the dead cats “appear to have been cannibalized,” police said.

Healthy Hearts and Paws, Warren, took possession of all the cats and took the live ones to a veterinarian, police said. The vet report indicated the cats were in a state of “serious physical harm,” police said.
