A Youngstown man has been sentenced to 4 years in prison for committing burglaries in Brookfield and Liberty.

Johnattan S. Martinez, 41, pleaded guilty March 3 in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court to charges of theft and burglary in the Liberty case, and was sentenced by Judge Ronald Rice to 2 years in prison. Martinez pleaded guilty March 11 to two counts of burglary in the Brookfield case, and Judge Sean O’Brien tacked on another 2 years.

In Brookfield, police received a report Aug. 21 that someone had broken into a house that was under renovation in the 6100 block of Warren Sharon Road, police said. A rear door had been kicked in, police said. A neighbor provided a video that showed two men leaving the house and fleeing in a vehicle.

An anonymous tipster identified Martinez, and police verified he was one of the men in the video, police said.

Martinez was arrested on warrants Sept. 2 by Liberty police. A day later, an informant told Liberty police that Martinez had stolen items from locations in Brookfield and Liberty and sold the items to support a drug habit, Brookfield police said.

During a Sept. 5 interview, Martinez told police that he had broken into the Warren Sharon house two or three times and stole tools and toolboxes to trade in Youngstown for crack cocaine and cash, police said.
