An Ellwood City man has been charged with offenses related to running from police twice after the SUV he was driving was stopped for speeding March 14 on Route 7 near Route 82.
Police said Trent A. Sirak, 22, properly identified himself but said he has never had a driver’s license. His mom was in the SUV with him, police said.
When a policeman returned to his cruiser to research Sirak, Sirak got out of the SUV and ran into woods, police said. Police caught up with him on Brookfield Local School District grounds and stopped a separate SUV Sirak had just gotten into in front of the middle school entrance door, police said. Sirak got out, yelled an obscenity and ran toward the athletic stadium and into woods, again eluding police.
Sirak’s mom, who appears to have cooperated with police, described her son as “an idiot.”
Police have obtained an arrest warrant for Sirak charging him with fleeing and open container for having a container of alcoholic tea in the SUV. All of the charges are misdemeanors. He also has been charged with these traffic violations: driving without a license, reckless operation, no seat belt and unauthorized use of a license plate.
The woman driving the second vehicle, Morgan S. Duffy, 25, of Ellwood City, who police identified as Sirak’s girlfriend, has been charged with obstruction, a misdemeanor, and driving under suspension.
Neither Sirak nor Duffy are in custody.
Sirak also is wanted on warrants from Beaver County, Pa., charging him with aggravated and simple assault and harassment, and from Lawrence County, Pa., charging him with simple assault, harassment and probation violations.
Hubbard Township police and Ohio Highway Patrol assisted in the search.
