Elspeth McKeag appears in court May 7 with her attorney, Brendan Keating.
Elspeth McKeag, the 87-year-old woman involved in a fatal two-vehicle crash in Masury, pleaded guilty May 19 to vehicular manslaughter, a misdemeanor charge.
Trumbull County Eastern District Court Judge Marty Nosich set sentencing for July 9. The maximum penalty McKeag could get is 90 days in jail, Nosich said.
Trumbull County Assistant Prosecutor Deena DeVico asked that a presentence investigation be conducted.
The May 19 hearing had been set to discuss DeVico’s request that McKeag not be allowed to drive while her case was pending. McKeag agreed that she will not drive, defense attorney Brendan Keating said.
“You’re unable to drive until further court order,” Nosich told McKeag, of Hermitage.
The crash occurred March 8. McKeag was turning her SUV from Route 82 eastbound onto Addison Road when she pulled into the path of a motorcycle, which was westbound on Route 82, Ohio Highway Patrol said.
Killed was motorcycle driver David A. Rice, 62 of Sharpsville. His passenger, Angeleena M. Medovich, 18, who lived with Rice, was critically injured. She appeared in court May 19 in a wheelchair.
“She ruined my life,” Medovich said of McKeag.
McKeag told police she thought the road was clear when she made the turn and did not see the motorcycle.
Rice was pronounced dead at the scene.
