What would you do, Brookfield Fire Chief David Masirovits asked, if you were weed-whacking your lawn and a decent-sized lizard popped its head up?
That’s exactly what happened to a resident of Brookfield Avenue in the early afternoon of May 26. Masirovits happened to be passing by when he spotted the woman on her phone – and she had the look of someone calling 911, he said. When she spotted him, she called him for help.
“She’s pointing, and I’m looking for smoke,” the chief said.
The woman, who lived near Alfred Street, said there was something laying in her yard, he said.

Brookfield Police Chief Aaron Kasiewicz holds the bearded dragon that was found in a yard on Brookfield Avenue in Masury.
“I thought there was a man or something,” Masirovits said. “I’m looking, and I don’t see anything. She goes, ‘There’s a lizard in my yard!’”
The woman got a tote bin, which they threw over the bearded dragon, and Masirovits said he called Police Chief Aaron Kasiewicz.
“What do we do with this?” he said he asked.
Kasiewicz called the local reptile supply store, which was closed, and then tried a couple of animal rescue operations, neither of which were available. They were able to corral the beast into an animal carrier and took it to a veterinarian, where it is being housed temporarily.
The owner of the bearded dragon can call the police department at 330-448-6960 to claim it. If the owner can show proof of ownership, the police department will release the name of the vet to the owner, Kasiewicz said.
