Brookfield Historical Society is inviting people to learn about places in Brookfield’s past – some that are still here; some that are not – by participating in a History Discovery Trail July 18.
Teams of history hunters will be given maps to get them to the five tour stops. At each site, information will be posted about their significance. Teams will take a selfie at the site before moving onto the next one. Once teams have completed the tour, they are to return to the registration point with their photos. The first team to complete the tour will receive a prize.
“It will be something that will be fun to do, instead of just having some speaker speaking about a topic,” said Jan Arnaut, the society’s vice president. “It’s more engaging to actually get to the site where things actually happened years and years ago.”
The tour starts and ends on the green in Brookfield Center by Ripley’s Scoop Shop. Registration costs $5. Teams can pre-register by calling Arnaut at 941-661-7814. Starting time is 1 p.m.
The five stops will be: Arthurholt Flour Mill, Jennings Manufacturing, Osborne Mausoleum in Brookfield Township Cemetery, Idlewild Amusement Park and Brass and Wire Coal Mine.
