The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio has approved a rate hike for customers of Aqua Ohio, which provides drinking water to parts of Brookfield and Hubbard townships, that will result in residential customers paying an average of $9 to $15 more a month, the PUCO said.
Aqua Ohio, which serves about 154,000 customers, had sought a rate hike that would increase annual revenue by $13.4 million, or 16.4 percent over current revenues. The PUCO approved an increase in revenue of $9.5 million, which is in line with that recommended by PUCO staff.
“The commission rejected a proposed increase to the fixed customer charge for water service, which will remain unchanged,” the PUCO said.
Aqua Ohio sought the rate hike “to recover the costs of providing service, noting it has made significant improvements needed to maintain service reliability, fire protection, water quality and compliance with federal and state regulations,” PUCO said.
